Out of Area Registration

From January 2015, NHS England have brought in new arrangements whereby all GP practices are free to register (or re-register if you are moving) patients outside their practice area without any obligation on the practice to provide home visits or out of hours care.

Under these regulations we are able to offer you the majority of our services including routine and urgent in hours appointments at the surgery. However, in the event that you require a home visit, urgent care (whereby you have an urgent medical need during working hours but clinically it is inappropriate for you to travel to us) or out of hours care you will be asked to contact NHS 111 who will direct you to a service local to you.

We are only able to register you under this scheme whilst it is clinically appropriate to do so. There are some clinical conditions or care needs which mean that registration without the ability to do home visits would compromise clinical care and the patient’s needs would be better met by a practice near to where they live.

For example, if you have (or develop) complex long term conditions that mean you need a package of home-based care or community-based support which would be difficult for the practice to coordinate remotely; or you rely on frequent home visits from your current GP practice.

Similarly, should you require home visits via NHS 111 on more than 2 occasions in a 12 month period this will trigger a review as to whether is more clinically appropriate for you to register with a more local practice.

Should you require medical advice your first port of call in hours (8am – 6pm Monday to Friday) should always be us, and out of hours after 6pm call NHS 111 by dialling 111 (Free from Landlines and Mobiles)

We are bound by the regulations imposed by NHS England for this service and are unable to offer any flexibility with it.
